COOPERATIVA JOLOM MAYAETIK

November 1, 2017

Since the 1980s, women from the indigenous communities of the highlands of Chiapas began to organize. Yolanda Castro, Micaela Hernandez and Rosalinda Santiz were the founders.

At the origin of the cooperative men sold the textiles and received the payments, leaving the women artisans without their profits, the women had no right to leave the house, much less to sell their pieces.

The communication was difficult, there were no roads, the few craftsmen who could leave home had to walk 2 to 3 hours to carry and bring their textiles. Thanks to the tenacity of these women in the 90's the cooperative is consolidated and begins to work side by side with kinal antzetik sister cooperative.

Currently, women participate in workshops, meetings and trainings to improve their lives and their creations.
