ARTISAN WOMEN FROM SANTO TOMAS JALIEZA
Santo Tomás Jalieza
Santo Tomás Jalieza is located in the state of Oaxaca and is one of Mexico’s five "Magic Route of Handicrafts", a series of popular trails many visitors enjoy each year.
Thanks to the tenacity and talent of local women, who have formed and organized a group dedicated to preserving their traditions, we can still find beautiful textile crafts made by waist looms.
The waist loom is a prehispanic technique in which natural fibers are tied at one end to a pole and at another to the craftsman waist.
The loom is usually made of wood although they can also be made using metal.
